Bavarian Stays in Leavenworth

• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Leavenworth, WA, Washington State.
Leavenworth isn't the state of Washington's average town. In 1962, to revitalize its struggling economy, the small town transformed itself into a Bavarian village and now takes its German theme very seriously. Home to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum—where more than 5,000 nutcrackers are on display—and with an annual Oktoberfest celebration rumored to be one of the most attended in the world, this quasi-German town continues to draw in visitors more than 40 years after its Bavarian makeover.

Easily accessible by car, this small Washington town is a great place for families, couples or those just needing an overnight getaway. Travelers can experience museums, spas, parks, wine tours, yoga retreats and even geocaching in Leavenworth. But, before one can delve into exploring this little piece of faux Germany, a place to stay will be necessary. Fortunately with a booming tourist industry, finding accommodation in Leavenworth is a simple task. Many of the hotels in Leavenworth capitalize on the town's German feel and walking down the main street is oddly reminiscent of wandering through a European mountain town.

HOTELS & MOTELS IN LEAVENWORTH

Leavenworth is a small town and most of its hotels and accommodation properties are situated along the main street—Highway 2—which runs right through the center of town.

A variety of hotels and motels are available to suit all budgets and preferences. Visitors can choose from a limited number of larger hotel chains, such as Best Western, that provide standard amenities such as Internet, swimming pools, on-site dining and fitness centers. Or, those looking for a more unique, or more Bavarian, experience might want to choose from one of the smaller, independently-owned hotels.

The Alpen Rose Inn is a European-inspired hotel that combines all the amenities of a hotel—in-room fireplaces and spas, and an outdoor heated pool, and hot tub—with the personal touches of a bed and breakfast. The hotel's dedication to its guests can be seen in little details like evening candlelight dessert, a complimentary hot breakfast and the morning delivery of coffee or tea.

Visitors to Leavenworth might also opt for Hotel Pension Anna, a small family-run hotel located on the main street. Seventeen Austrian and German-themed rooms tempt guests into a good night's sleep, and deluxe suites—complete with Jacuzzis and fireplaces—are available for guests looking to upgrade to a bit of luxury. A piping hot breakfast is also included in the room rate.

For a truly olde worlde atmosphere, the Enzian Inn invites visitors to stop and stay a while. Catering to those looking for a special experience, this alpine-inspired hotel offers guests standard, family, executive and bridal rooms, as well as a selection of suites. All rooms come with a hearty breakfast accompanied by a daily Alphorn serenade. The Bavarian Ritz Hotel offers a similar experience with a number of room options, including family rooms and large suites.
